Remove the pot from the heat. To test if the jam is set, place a small spoonful on a chilled plate and freeze it for a minute. If it wrinkles when you push it with your finger, it’s ready. If not, return to a boil for another minute and test again.
Step 5: Jar and Preserve
For Freezer Jam: Let the jam cool slightly, then ladle it into clean, freezer-safe jars or containers, leaving a ½-inch headspace for expansion. Seal and let cool completely to room temperature before freezing.
For Water Bath Canning (Shelf-Stable): Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized canning jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Wipe the rims, apply lids and rings, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Remove and let cool on a towel, checking that seals have formed.
Step 6: The Finishing Touch
Once your jars are sealed and cooled, add your festive labels and a ribbon. Your beautiful, homemade holiday gift is ready!
