The note read: “I’ll be back in a few minutes. There’s water. Don’t touch the car.
If necessary, call this number.” A phone number was listed below the text.
I immediately called, hoping to speak to the owner and convince him to hurry up.
But the conversation didn’t go at all as I had imagined. The man on the other end of the line replied coldly and irritably:
“There’s water, everything’s under control. Don’t meddle in other people’s business.”
My heart sank with helplessness and anger. I understood that every minute counted here.
