How to recognize nighttime cramps?

A nighttime cramp is a feeling of extreme tension in the muscle, accompanied by sharp pain. This can last from a few seconds to several minutes, often while you’re relaxing or in the middle of the night. Afterward, the muscle may remain tender for several hours.
