Improper Storage
Cloves lose their properties when exposed to heat, moisture, or light. To preserve their quality, store them in airtight, dark glass or ceramic containers, and keep them in a cool, dry place, such as a pantry.
Overusing Cloves:
Excessive consumption of cloves can cause digestive issues and liver stress due to the high levels of eugenol. Stick to one or two cloves daily to avoid potential problems.
Combining Cloves with Diabetes Medications:
Because cloves help lower blood sugar, combining them with medications like insulin or metformin—which have the same effect—can cause your blood sugar to drop too much, leading to dizziness, weakness, and confusion.
Replacing Dental Care with Cloves:
Cloves can temporarily relieve toothaches, but they don’t address the underlying causes. Prolonged use without seeking professional dental care can lead to complications. Use cloves only as a short-term remedy.
Misusing Clove Essential Oil:
Clove oil is potent, with a single drop equivalent to a dozen cloves. Applying it directly to the skin or gums can cause burns. Always dilute it with a carrier oil, and use it in small amounts for aromatherapy or topical applications. Never consume clove oil.
