Can You Make Garlic And Onion Powder In Another Way?
Yes! There are more ways to dry the onions and garlic.
Using Food Dehydrator
To make the onion and garlic powder in a dehydrator, place the thin onion or garlic slices in a single layer in the dehydrator (make sure that they don’t overlap!).
Dehydrate at 150ºF/66ºC. The time will depend on the humidity. If you live in a humid area, it will take up to 8 hours, if you live in a dry area, it will take 4-6 hours. Once the onions and garlic are completely dry, you can blend them.
Using Air Drying
You can dry the onions and garlic without an oven or dehydrator by using natural sunlight. Simply place the onion or garlic slices on a baking sheet lined with a kitchen towel. Place in a sunny, well-ventilated area for a few days. This method works best in dry, hot areas.
Tips
To prevent clumping, add a few grains of rice (or beans) to the jar. They will absorb extra moisture and prevent the spice from clumping.
To dehydrate the onions or garlic in the microwave, lay the slices on a plate lined with kitchen paper. Microwave in 30-second increments until dry.
If they become too brown in the oven, place a layer of foil on top, or turn the oven down.
To make garlic or onion salt, mix 3 parts salt with 1 part onion or garlic.
