The maternity ward was packed that day. At a leading hospital in the middle of Mexico City, there were rarely moments of calm. Dr. Alejandro had just completed a cesarean section when he received an urgent order: a patient in advanced labor, almost fully dilated, needed the primary physician on call.

She hurried to change into her gown and entered the delivery room. But when she saw the woman on the stretcher, she froze.
It was Valeria—his ex-girlfriend, the woman who had held his hand for seven years and then suddenly dumped him without a single explanation. Now she stood there, drenched in sweat, her stomach about to burst, clutching her phone tightly, but with a look on her face that, upon recognition, was tinged with surprise and fear.
“Are you… the head doctor?” she whispered.
Alejandro didn’t respond. He just nodded and pushed the stretcher toward the delivery room.
It was a complicated delivery. Valeria’s blood pressure dropped sharply, her fetal heartbeat became weak, and immediate intervention was necessary. Amid the tension, Alejandro maintained a professional calm. The entire team held their breath as they worked together.
